Alcohol seems to be a factor when people act stupidly. But I believe some of the blame is due to printed tee shirts that play to the issue of what is worn under the kilt. Also, some kilt wearers, again where drinking is involved, do contribute to this juvenile behavior.
As a new kilt wearer I have been asked by a 50 plus women in an Ikea. Since I usually wear my kilt at volunteer jobs and at church, I simply answer that I wear shorts

I was bloody annoyed last week when a straight Scotsman who I know has worn a kilt lifted mine in front of a group of seated "ladies". I sharply stepped back so I don't know how much was revealed. I made some comment about not knowing he was gay and laughed it off, but was very unhappy about it. Add to that I was called a pansy in a skirt a month ago by a thug with a Scottish surname. I've gone from daily wear to shorts at the moment. Plus the place is full of drunken British tourists at the moment and I'd rather not have the hassle.

I agree with your annoyance. The Scot should have known better. Often what is purported to be good natured kidding, is really aggression. I see you are in
Spain. I work with Mexican migrant workers here in Florida and they always seem to find it comical when I wear my "falda escosesa" (kilt in Spanish) to work. No se preocupe, amigo.

I don't really have much of a problem with the Spanish to be honest, but I wouldn't wear my utility kilts outside of my own area.

On my wedding whilst kilted I was repeated touched up by a drunk who,I'm happier to say is now a former friend.
Just because anyone wears a kilt doesn't mean they want to be touched up!
