How can they do that? The English I mean. The whole Blackwatch thing. How can the English just cast them off like that? These men were blown to hamburger in so many wars. They had suicide missions. They crawled the trenches and bore the brunt of war on their shoulders... And how can they be treated as nothing more then common expendable infantry? How in the hell could they just go home and be mostly forgotten like that? I, well, I just don't understand. I am not from England. I don't know the politics as well I would like. And I don't know half as much as I should. I know there is a lot of tension between the Scots and the English, but hell, HOW could anybody just cast somebody off like that? How could somebody just belittle somebody like that? Really pisses me off. I guess I don't understand. I am not sure I want to. How could somebody go home to their own country and receive what is a lukewarm welcome at best... But come to America and be recognized as a hero? What gives... I am ignorant on these issues.
Yeh how could they do that? We came home and they spit on some of us, called us baby killers and rapers. Said we commited atrocities everyday from the lowest ranking to the highest levels of command. Even some of our own accused us of this. Now do you still wonder why some of us are bent out of shape about it? But never mind that.. we were just Vietnam war vets, it doesn't matter.
Sorry Doug, I feel very sorry for this man and I hope next time I am in Greenville we can meet with him together. Hope your encounter with him makes you see Vietnam vets in a new light. You unintentionally opened up some pretty deep wounds which did not come from bullets or hand grenades. But thank you for sharing. I really appreciated that.
