I'm sure it will be a good day, Stitchwiz, although Alan is taking a pass on this game. We'll be roadtripping down to Vista later this month - and for old guys that is classified as a wild weekend: long drive, throw stuff, return. Finest kind.
So, last night at the gym may have been an indication that the forgetful part of my life is arriving all too soon. Pulled in the parking lot, got out of the car, reached in the back seat for my gym bag, and it wasn't there....I left it at home.
Smacked forehead, got back in the car, drove home.
Great workout.
Modesto tomorrow.

I can't tell you the number of times I've forgotten my Stanford ID card. Fortunately the front desk has a 3x a quarter "dummy" deal, where they'll let you in without your card. I think I'm averaging about 2x a quarter...no card.
Have a great time in Modesto! Throw big!

Modesto was an enjoyable afternoon in perfect weather. Throwing performance was a different story and highlighted for me the necessity of consistent practice. The stretch between Woodland and Modesto was marked by a couple of long stretches of not being able to practice - illness, real life, etc - took its toll. I went in feeling good but as the day went on I was rusty, especially in both wfds. I got marks but fouled several times; my balance and timing were just simply off.
So no PRs, distances were just nothing remarkable.
Between now and Vista I'm going to ramp it up significantly.
Lesson learned: don't get sick and real life can step aside long enough for practice sessions.

Totally understand why. Lesson learned and you will do better next time out.
You have much to look forward to, and lots of time with Alan. He's been there and can commiserate when you need it. He can inspire you as you also inspire him - that's what friends do for each other, and a little friendly competition doesn't hurt, either.
A old guys 'wild' time is all you need to lift your spirits.

Let's see now, where was I? Too much going on and in all the fuss I neglected to update.
Quick version: last Tuesday at the gym I had a very good overhead press and squat session. In addition, I decided what my plan will be for in season lifting to regain what I've lost since mid-February from being sidelined by injury and not lifting consistently. In essence, I'll start with moderate weight on the four majors: squat, bench, overhead, and pulls, plus pull-ups, and do a 5x5 approach a couple times per week, moving up steadily without really pushing up too fast. I figure I'll get both maintenance and some progress aimed at being strong during the Sept/Oct string of games, and that level of lifting won't detract from throwing often.
Last Wednesday had an wob exclusive event, lasting about an hour. A lot of form work, reps, and ironing out some issues I noticed at Modesto.
On Thursday Life called and I had to answer.
Friday I had planned to throw or lift but I was simply exhausted from the previous day's intervention by Life. I won't say that Life Sucks, but on occasion its manners could use an upgrade.
Saturday was for family obligations and Sunday I went to Shaffer to re-charge, re-start, and re-sume. A lot of loosening up and easy drilling stone, hammer, wfd.
Last night my son and I had a really good session with wob and wfd. Wob looked and felt good. Wfd I seemed to have lost fluidity and my footwork is not secure. More work is needed to get it back.
I'm going decide whether to throw or lift later but one of them will happen this evening.

Tuesday night I had a good overhead press session, beginning my 5x5 moderate weight approach. Thus, after warm-ups I did the work sets with 95. Not overly difficult to complete but I can definitely feel the lose of some strength since February. Barring interruptions this should put me back on track going forward. Also, did bench row, pull-ups, and a few other accessory lifts.
Last night I decided to rest with the intention of throwing this evening. Hammers, wfd, and maybe some caber.

Confession of incompetence: I had written a lengthy post before the Duke last weekend which, thinking back, was one of my absolute best posts ever - informative, witty, full of insight and sage wisdom. Then I hit the wrong button and it disappeared in the blink of an eye. By now I know better and I should have followed my usual practice of writing on Wordpad and moving the text here with a cut/paste. But I didn't, and I feel guilty about being unable to share my thoughts, which were fleeting and now lost...
*snort* yeah, right...
Anyway, the Duke was a great time - perfect weather, a bit light on attendance, but those of us on the field had a really exceptional throw party. Shaffer Park is simply a special place to spend the day.
After resting a couple of days, I had a good hammer session on Wednesday. Yesterday my knee was slightly tender which prompted me to forego my planned wfd work and rest the knee. I'd rather drop a day of practice then be dealing with knee issues at Vista this weekend.
Alan H and I will be making the trek down south on Saturday and throwing on Sunday; drive back on Monday. Not a bad way to spend a weekend.

He's the quiet and retiring type, so I'm just going to blow his cover and show you what he did this weekend.
Light Hammer
Weight for Distance throw...
