Shaffer Park was closed this weekend for a Boy Scout function so no throwing. Instead I had a good bench session on Friday evening and a pull session this afternoon. Between now and Fresno I will emphasize these lifts along with the usual accessory stuff. Not going for max, but just enough to maintain strength levels going into the September/October stretch of games.

This is one of those days where the prospect of going to Shaffer Park later this afternoon is a balm to the soul.
Alan H will understand exactly what I mean.

Throwing last night with Gman at Shaffer Park. Heavy and light weight for distance, wob, and some caber.
A good solid session, although I felt slightly out of sync. It took several tosses with both weights until I felt the groove somewhat. In wob my trajectory was off and my first couple of picks with the caber went haywire. Some days are just like that.
But, bottom line, a couple hours at Shaffer is good for what ails ya.

I'm thinking that next season, probably half of my practice sessions will be on Sunday afternoons at Shaffer Park.

Pleasanton is over; I spent the weekend marking throws for the elite women in the morning and working one side of the wob standard for the pros and other classes in the afternoon. Long days but fun nonetheless.
Yesterday I did a light lift and treadmill session to get loosened up. This afternoon I'll do some throwing in preparation for the Sept/Oct run which begins in two weeks. Fresno, Dixon, Big Trees, and Ventura on consecutive weekends. From here to the end it will be maintenance lifting and drilling technique, saving the throws for the weekend.
The mantra is be smart, don't get injured, and allow for plenty of recovery.
It's showtime.

Found myself exhausted yesterday afternoon so I took the day off. Right move; much better today.

This has been a season marked by weirdness, starting with the Hot Tub Debacle a few days before the Queen Mary in February. Since then I've had really good games and really bad games. But the main weirdness has been the muscle spasms in my back when doing warm up lifting, which is both irritating in the extreme and baffling as to why it's happening. And it happened again last week. On Monday after Pleasanton while doing light warm up rack pulls I felt a "grab" in my lower left back. Not really painful but I knew something was out of whack. I stopped, stretched, and walked on the treadmill for a good while; I've found that walking tends to put things back in place if you start immediately after a tweak and it's not really serious. Not real bad and by Wednesday I was good for light work. I took a couple of days off and on Saturday went to the gym. While doing easy warm ups on the seated bench row, it happened again. Same routine-stretch and walk; took Sunday and yesterday off. Today the back is fine for Fresno this Saturday.
Today, however, I'm going to do planks, other back support work, and stretch. No lifting of any consequence and tomorrow some drilling.
I realize that these things happen on occasion but that doesn't make them any less of a bother. Plus, the timing always seems to be at the worst moment for game prep.

Annoying. Yesterday I put a little tweak in my neck reaching for my coffee. Go figure.

Yeah, been there, done that. My all-timer was a major tweak in my lower back that hit me hard while putting on my pants. On reflection, that is a good reason to wear kilts: less risky.
