I think the reason there's not much discussion on AK's is because for a little more money you can get a kilt with cargo pockets or slit pockets and provide more functionality. But what you do hear about AK's is usually if not always postive.
I know one of my hang-ups was the hem verses selvedge. While a selvedge is traditional most people may prefer a hem on a casual kilt. I've noticed the selvedge edge on the AK could use some more strength. I read in another thread about a "Selvedge Tape" I think you can iron on that might provide reinforcement to prevent fraying if I get snagged on something.
I've spent the past couple evenings ironing out the inner pleat on my AK to try and get the hang right. I think they look pretty good. Now I just need to stitch the inner pleat to hold the shape.

Hey cav, what is going on? From getting your first kilt on Feb 26 to selling it starting yesterday, did soneone get to you?

Adam, we argued over money, what the kids and others would think, how much I would wear a kilt for the money... needless to say the past couple of weeks have been fairly miserable in the relationship department.
I have in no way lost my wish to wear a kilt as the short time I was able to wear the AK was great. I will simlpy need to bid my time a bit more. Which is cheaper...Alimoney + Child support or a new kilt?
This is an argument I never expected to be this much of an issue. I imagined the hottest argument would be what shirt I wore with my "skirt".
All this aside, she is a great women and a wonderful mother to our kids. She is simply not ready to have me step outside the "normal" standard in our small community.

However a wise choice.

cavscout,
I don't know if you saw my original post called "A decision has been made", but all I can say is I feel your pain. I'm going through almost the exact experiences as you are. I got a ton of replies, many supportive, some not so much.
In the end, we all have to do what's right for our particular situation. I wouldn't want to loose my marriage over a kilt.
Good luck

Thanks Dana and Glen. I did read your thread and I had hoped my situatioin would not come to this. Until now, I've never really encountered anything where someone else has been so opposed to something I've wanted to do so these are all very new thoughts and feelings. I'm developing an appreciation for thse who have to struggle every day with the social ideology of others.
Oddly, every morning, I curse my pants as I put them on Is there a Kilts Anonymous support group. "Hi, I'm Cavscout and I wear a kilt. Hi, Cav"
Honestly, I feel worse for the Kilt makers whose time and effort I've wasted but who have still been very supportive.

Cav, don't sweat it. In your position I think I'd probably keep the kilt, but only wear it when the wife wasn't around. I have to say that I'm extremely lucky. My wife and family love the look of my kilts and have been very supportive from the start. Regardless of what you do hang around. We still enjoy your company and comments.
