I'd say as far as Tuesday's concerned, you either find an excuse not to attend, or borrow trousers to attend, since the employer wants to create a particular impression on potential new clients. Maybe not the right impression to win new clients but the boss has made the decision on how she wants to make the presentation and as an employee you should go along with it. I'd continue wearing kilts on other days, but if they do eventually introduce a dress code which bans kilts I'd be tempted to tell them where to stuff their job and they'd lose a valued employee. Hopefully though, long before things ever get to that stage, the top brass will have sussed out the chronic inadequacies of your immediate superior and got rid of her.

That does not appear very logical to me.
Would it not be better to try to get a dress code that forbids non-bifurcated garments for all employees?
Granted, that looks like the opposite of what we would like to happen, but I'm quite sure that the women, who like to be comfortable in skirts once the weather warms up, would be up in arms over a dress code that denies them the freedom of choice.
If they then get the dress code changed to regain the right to wear what they want on the basis of mere comfort, what argument could there be to deny that freedom of choice to men?

I would just like to remind everyone of Dr. Seuss' immortal words from Oh, the Places You'll Go!
You'll get mixed up, of course,
as you already know.
You'll get mixed up
with many strange birds as you go.
So be sure when you step.
You step with great care and great tact
and remember that Life's
a Great Balancing Act.
Just never forget to be dexterous and deft.
And never mix up your right foot with your left.

Sympathies from a long distance
G'day Ron
As has been stated by others, I suspect that your new boss is attempting to use her newfound authority to display her power to change the environment - and you're a nice visible target. Changing your method of dress means she can also tell anyone else what to wear.
I must admit, your post got my hackles up on your behalf - as a fellow kiltie, as a (sort of) fellow counsellor, and as an advocate of gender equity. I believe her insensitive and narrow-minded attitude displays a distinct lack of sensitivity that her position should require.
I also agree with others who have stated that if you must wear trousers, then women should only wear skirts. If they're going to apply gender-specific clothing to their staff, then it should be applied across the board!
And that means that Ms Boss needs to stop wearing trousers - they're "male only" garments according to her new dress-code!
Good luck with the battle, Ron - May the best kiltie win!!

She's a sexist and a racist. I'd make it clear to her superiors of this, and that either she change her tune, or I'm gone.

Ron-
My vote was for Loud MacLeod trews closely followed by Caledonia trews!
Be sure to wear a matching tartan tie with them!
Your waistcoat could be a nice solid solor to compliment/clash with the tartan chosen.
I am sure after her eyes quit bleeding she will be fine with your kilt wearing.
(you know, I think I might need apair of tartan trews, come to think of it)
I once had a new supervisor that really shook the tree. He didn't just upset the apple cart, he turned it over! He lasted about 11 months and was let go due to massive amounts of complaints against him.
You could get lucky.........

from http://www.acluaz.org/
"...when workers can show that they were fired or mistreated because of their race, gender, ethnic background, religion, disability or any other basis that violates anti-discrimination statutes, there is stronger legal protection. In such cases, we ask that you contact the Arizona Attorney General’s Office – Civil Rights Division before you send a letter to the ACLU of Arizona. interesting thought there...
Anyway, having been the target of exactly the same type of single-mindedness, I cannot express how very much I hope this new supervisor is either not your supervisor for long, or is given the "come to jesus" talk by her managers. Either way, for you to no longer wear the kilt at a job you have held kilted for years would be a travesty.
To that end, I'll be wearing my kilt on tuesday in support of your efforts!
