I personally like the look of the regulation doublet...with the belt on the outside, and cross belt, AND pipers plaid!!!! I think the picture (off of the vintage photo thread) sums it up pretty well...of course I have always been a fan of the old fashioned style of dress (why cant we bring that back??).

We can bring it back Chad, it just takes one at a time to decide thats what he wants to do, oh and deep pockets too.

yeah,
I may have to work on that..the great thing about being a contract piper for a living....everything and anything I buy that is kilt or bagpiping related is a tax write off!!!!! (just got a new set of Souter pipes about a month ago). But I need al the wrie offs I can get seeing as how I pipe 7 days a week...and there are no taxes taken out....OUCH!! Anyway, as soon as I get my other outfits done (right now I am putting together a WWII Liverpool Scottish uniform for dress and a WWI Liverpool Scottish uniform for everyday during the winter) I will have to look into getting e regulation doublet.
Cheers,
Chad

well said! There really isn't anything old fashioned about what he is wearing. One rarely sees the full plaid these days. Same with a dirk, but that doesn't mean they cannot be worn!

I've slowly come to the conclution that these things are above my status; though they are nice to think about.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Great thread and highly informative! By the looks of the doublets, I'm drawn to the Regulation.
