I am not allowed to wear the kilt to work, it is not considered professional, so I will be wearing my Cooper family tartan tie and humming piping tunes all day. The second I get home the kilt goes on.

Hmmph! I couldn't wear the kilt at my last two jobs either. ('course automobile and metal fabrication factories probably aren't the best or safest environments for our beloved kilts).
As for today I will be in my Roxburgh Red Ancient -even if I only make it to the grocery and gas station.

Since I posted this soon after my arrival at work I've received several more compliments - and engaged in several discussions about kilts and tartan.
Only one person called it a skirt - and he is a co-worker trying to get my goat...as he always does when I wear a kilt to work. I challenged him to wear one (in one of the German heritage tartans) and he quickly backed down...

I am, indeed, wearing my Leatherneck for the very reason you cited. Just to make sure there is no confusion, I've got an Eagle, Globe and Anchor on my beltplate (same as the DIs wear, and which I received while on our base color guard), a USMC kilt pin I got from Alexis Malcolm, and my gold Marine Corps parachustists wings on my new Thorfinn sporran. I've also got on a Marine Corps regimental tie (strictly an unofficial pattern though).
Most people have either complimented me, or just taken a look. I'm used to it and expected no less.

On the way in to work, got a friendly-interested class of question about what tartan I'm wearing (Forrester Hunting, rarely seen here, I get a lot of questions like that, more often than not from experts). People here are mostly used to me and my ways, but I did get the what's under the kilt questions from another division, one of my replies, "the same old stuff," went over very well- never used it before but it may be my standard one from now on.

Somethings I can disagree with but understand the rationale, like if the kilt might be a safety issue in the workplace, or your duties required work that may not be compatible like having to manuever in crawl spaces and the like.
But saying the kilt is unprofessional is insulting. I hope I don't offend anyone by saying that. I am lucky in that my boss allows me to wear the kilt on certain days and I would not complain if he did not. I would be put out though if he deemed the kilt as less than professional attire.

Sadly, I haven't had a chance to really do anything special for tartan day. I'm usually home during the day and have not really bought much tartan. If I had a job (been looking off and on with no luck, but that's ok right now), I would probably wear a bit of tartan like a ribbon or a rosette if I was unable to wear a kilted skirt. I think a ribbon or rosette would definitely make the tartan stand out as something special and not just fashion plaid for those who might not know. I'm not sure if my husband would ever be able to wear the kilt at a job, but otherwise I would consider getting him a tartan tie. We're still not sure what tartan we'll be using... I'm not really too attached to the tartan that goes with my surname for various reasons, and I'm still trying to figure out the supposed Scottish link on my husband's side (it's been one of the most difficult genealogy searches I've ever had to deal with -- very frustrating!). I would love it if we could find my husband's "link" and we could both just use that tartan.
That said, I also would possibly wear a bit of Texas Bluebonnet tartan, especially if I attended one of the Texas events or if it was on a different day.
So, unfortunately this is just another day for us (lately, it's mostly been non-kilted/tartan... ah well). Sorry for the babbling, barely got any sleep last night and I'm out of it.

Went out hunting for my kilted brethren. I missed ya in the mix, Sir William. Gotta do something about that silly AR 670-1, had to wear ACUs.
Jeff, do you think we can get the Big Army to approve wearing the ACU kilts on Tartan Day?

Long time no see!
Today I argued that all active duty personnel should be allowed to wear their respective service tartan on Tartan Day. Preferably as a kilt of course.
And for those exposed to hostile fire, they should be allowed to wear a camouflage kilt in their service's respective disruptive pattern.
Sadly, few thought it was a good idea. (It never ceases to amaze me that women like seeing men in a kilt, but many men feel "threatened" by the idea of wearing a kilt.)

I am home from work. It was a disappointing day.
I was dressed and ready to go at 06:30 this morning and my wife sent me back upstairs to take off "That Ridiculous Thing" and put on something more appropriate to our business. This was followed up with the comment that she won't "have you seen in public in That Ridiculous Thing."
I am sitting here wondering how best to get all the photos together of my stuff to start the thread in which I sell "That Ridiculous Thing" and all the accessories that go along.
