While generally a member of the more traditional crowd, I have found a number of the jackets posted in this thread to be both attractive and tempting. Thank you, CMcG for posting.
To many of you I would probably fall into the "young" category, but being married with two children (even if I haven't yet reached 30) has certainly made me feel like my days of envelope-pushing are well behind me. For this reason, I probably won't spring for any of these jackets, tempted though I may be.
Youth may be a state of mind, but when you haven't had a full night's sleep in a few years, your mind becomes too tired to be anything but old and cranky!

I love it! I think that would go great with a Steampunk outfit. At the last Steampunk LARP I went to, I played a Black Watch officer and wore a jacket similar to that...minus the zip.

Oh for more money to buy more kilts!

Highland Lass,
I don't know if you've seen the Steampunk group that recreates the 3rd Foot & Mouth, but they are quite hilarious, and yet very serious. Here is their recruiting poster with "Private Bob."

Made in san diego
I just ran across these on eBay. I might not have brought them to the forum's attention, but they were made in San Diego!

Lots more on the sellers site: http://stores.ebay.com/Mens-Western-...id=p4340.l2563
So, suitable for kilt jackets, or is the waist too short? Or cut too strange?

Are you baiting me, young sir? ![Shocked](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_eek.gif)
Long ago, already, one of my students complained in a course evaluation regarding my "tendency to wear provocative t-shirts" ... but only ever that one. And thus far no one to my knowledge has complained about my kilts (even the leather one). "Respectable looking" does not really count for much in academia.
Just get the jacket already.

The outline of the jacket is okay, but the western style "points" on the shoulders and back just don't flow with the kilt IMHO. I've skipped on a number of tweeds that would have otherwise been perfect.
The grass is greener on the other side of the fence...and it's usually greenest right above the septic tank.

You're welcome and thanks for taking the time to look through the whole thread!

I would never bait you! Unless it was going to lead to a good discussion
What I meant was that the un-respectable side of my wardrobe is well stocked and I'm working on having more clothes to look proper in. My budget is limited so I need to be strategic with my purchases. While there might be a relaxed dress code in academia, there are still situations where it doesn't hurt to dress up a bit. I think this is especially true as a grad student or young scholar. Judging by what some of my profs wear, this becomes less important once one has tenure
Regardless, I don't normally wear kilts to school. Although if you can convince me that wearing a black parade jacket and kilt will help me defend my dissertation, I'll buy one right now!
In all seriousness, I would buy one of these jacket if I found it for the right price. I've been keeping my eye out for a used one...

Great minds think alike and fools seldom disagree...
I found this picture on our sponsor Skilt's site. It is the same jacket as in the OP but with white details instead of grey. ![Rock](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/rock.gif)

I have to say, as a fan of the band My Chemical Romance and avid kilt enthusiast, I think my 16 year-old son would give up an appendage for that first jacket, zipper or not!
