You lucky, lucky man Woodsheal, I love the brand. Unfortunatley it is not being imported into Australia anymore and it means hunting bottle shops etc for old stock. I ran dry of it about 8 months ago and have not been able to find any in my travels.

Interesting thread, I really just discovered Irish whiskeys and Scotch whiskeys, about a year ago, I lived a sheltered life for 52 years, what can I say? I do like the Glenmorangie Lasanta 12 year old a lot, I also found that I really like the Knappogue Castle twin wood, a 16 year old single malt Irish whiskey both are finished in Sherry casks, so something about the sherry casks really strikes a chord with me. But for some reason I keep coming back to Middleton Very Rare Irish Whiskey, I like everything about it except the price, but it's a price I am willing to pay and at this point in my education of fine Scotch and Irish whiskeys, I could live with just Middleton Very Rare for the rest of my life. Let me try a few hundred more, and my choice may change. int:

My number one would have to be Lagavulin. Its just the King of All Islay whiskys (and therefore the King of All Whiskys)
Really to me any of the strong island whiskys (Lagavulin, Ardbeg, Laphroaig or Talisker), I wouldn't grouse too much about which.

My favorite whiskey is Redbreast. A pure pot still made the traditional Irish way. Incredibly smooth.

    Laphroaig 15.

That assumes of course, that the dearth of whisky would be adequately compensated by augmented supplies of Calvados and various rums.

I have to admit, I have really enjoyed this thread. So far, I have been "tasting" all the recommendations! I even visited my friend in Chicago and we endeavored to taste several of the recommended whiskeys/scotchs here--there were no kilts involved, much to my dismay, but lots of good scotch. So, THANKS!!
