Re: Hunting & Dress MacLean pix

Well he's been around a few months... He has pics of himeslf or someone else kilted... And he hasnt really done anything except express a valid opinion... That it's at odds with others ia nothing new on any forum... I would not say that he's a troll... I stand to be proven wrong, of course...

I'm not with Mead; I'm making light of the "troll" comment!

hkjrb623's comment actually made me laugh...hence the giggling smileys. Particularly in light of the Norse-Gaelic point he made! Have you seen the movie "Troll-hunter?" I have in my mind's eye an image from that movie...

No offense to anyone intended, especially you knotty. Just happy to be forum-ing with my fellow kilties. Relax. This is a thread about MacLean kilts. We're kinsmen. Now...let me buy you a beer...

Any MacLean, sept of MacLean, or Marine (U.S. or U.K.) that meets me in a pub or at the games can easily get a beer out of me! And to any Xmarkers out there: I'll share a pint wit' ye too!

I recently saw that movie. I was actually very surprised and entertained. It's great too see sense of humor among other MacLeans!

Really, most Scottish MacLeans wear the hunting tartan most of the time ( some even exclusively ). There is nothing wrong with the red tartan; I own several. But for everyday wear, I would emulate Sir Lachlan, and get a hunting tartan kilt first.
Good point here, Sandy. When I first began wearing Highland dress - on my own, and on a more serious nature - not dressed by my grandfather, I looked to my Chief, Sir William Macpherson of Cluny, for inspiration and guidance. I basically emulated his choices of Macpherson tartan (as we have many, like the MacLeans), and noted when he wore a particular Macpherson sett.

Generally speaking; the Macpherson dress was worn for evening occassions, and the Macpherson hunting for just about any other occassion - especially for day attire. The Macpherson red tartan is not (at least in Scotland - Badenoch) worn too often by Macphersons - mainly because it is the 'newest' Macpherson tartan to be created, and is very similiar to the 'Kidd' or 'Caledonia' tartan.

    Cheers,

Fantastic Clan MacLean photos, by the way! I love all of the muted and weathered tones being worn - the rich browns and tans of the various tweed jackets look superb too! Wonderful contrast with some of the more darker MacLean hunting tartan kilts.

Sandy - are you present (at Duart Castle) in the bottom photo by chance?

    Slainte,
