    Re: For All Who Serve

US Marine Corps 79-86 and was in Beirut in 83.
I come from a long line of military Veterans, my Dad was Air Force for 22 yrs, uncles in the Australian Army and British Army/Navy/Marines. I recently received a picture of a relative who was a medic with the Norfolk Regiment in WW1.
The legacy continues, my son is a Marine, who just returned from Afghanistan. My nephews are representing both the Navy and Army...

Served in the Royal Norwegian Air Force as a Flight Sergeant.
In civilian life I was an active member of the Norwegian Red Cross SAR team for quite a few years, but currently hold an inactive status.

    Army National Guard (long ago)
Law enforcement (more or less in order: university police officer, deputy constable, railroad police chief , deputy sheriff, municipal police officer) - now part-time
Volunteer rescue technician / rescue squad officer
    Volunteer firefighter
    EMT-Basic
    Public safety instructor
    Public safety chaplain

Most of the above (except law enforcement) is volunteer. To pay for it all, and perhaps a kilt or three, I work in public health...

Thanks to all who have posted so far for your service to your respective nations and communities.
For myself, I was in the US Army (Corps of Engineers) on active duty for 4 years, '69 to 73, with tours in Vietnam and Germany. Spent another 10 years in the reserves, off and on. and in 1985 became a civilian employee of the US Army. Spent most of the next 26 years in Germany building and maintaining the post facilities in and near Grafenwoehr. Living and working in a military community gave my wife and I a real sense of being a part of the military community. The Soldiers and Families have had a really rough time over the last ten years. Vets and their families are going to need support from the rest of us in many ways for years to come.

    Tom
