A compression wrap will help as will icing it down for 10 minutes several times a day.

    RICE:

    R-est
    I-ce
    C-ompression
    E-levation

Ah right, thanks Kit - so that helps even after a fortnight? Good to know!
Think I'll watch a LOT of hammer technique videos before next week's Games. Any YouTube recommendations?

If you're still in pain after two weeks, it's time to seek medical advice.

I'd go get it checked as well, it may not be something serious but then again it might be. I've had minor injuries that have lasted for a couple months regardless of after care. It's the nature of athletics. You may just need to wear a support.

Sometimes minor injuries can take a long time to heal, especially as we get older.
I used to run lots of half marathons and picked up a lot of minor strains and sprains, I have even had torn ligaments which placed me on crutches for a few weeks (and got me started wearing a kilt to work) from misplaced footing when climbing stairs.
Perhaps better to skip the hammer throwing at this weekend's games.

Whatever you do, DON'T "choke up" on the hammer handle. Grip it right at the end so that there' isn't a bit of it sticking out to dig into your wrist.

LOTS been going on... will post here and on my blog about it all, I promise! But in the meantime, just before going away to the Land of No Computers for a week (aka my parents' place), I've finally posted on the blog again. Only a small piece on the beauties of the Stanley Wheeled Tool Chest, but hey... it features a lovely photo of our own Alan H!
    LOL
    Enjoy.
