Has anyone else noticed that "The Operative" in Serenity is played by Chiwetel Ejioror, the same actor as "Lola" in Kinky Boots.

I didn't notice right away while watching Kinky Boots. He was also in the BBC miniseries Dancing on the Edge, so I was already a fan when he did 12 Years a Slave.

"Out of Gas", hands down.
Actually, one of my favorite hours of television ever. I find the interactions and dialogue of the initial crew members wonderful.

Did you ever notice that "Objects in Space" gets no respect? Why is that?

"Our Mrs. Reynolds," mainly because Christina Hendricks is in it.

Not true in my case at least. Allen only asked for one choice, but had there been a second then "Objects in Space" would have been mine. I guess there is something that appeals to me in a tightly crafted tale set in a minimal space. Both "Out of Gas" and "Objects in Space" are like stage plays. There's basically just the one set (Serenity herself, although a few scenes are set just outside the ship), and the characters' personalities and interactions are all you have to tell the story. It's surprisingly difficult to do well.
Also, with "Objects in Space" I see in Jubal Early an early (ha!) version of what was to become Chiwetel Ejiofor's "Operative" character in the movie. They are both very skilled, resourceful and controlled, with Jubal being just a bit less mentally disciplined. I think "bad guys" who are intelligent and competent are more interesting (and dangerous) than what is usually thrown at the heroes in most stories.
