Thinks for the info but I already knew this. The only reason I want the belt loops is to hel maintain the position of my "belt stuff". I have trousers that do not have loops were I would want them and my stuff ends up in the center back position which drives me 'round the twist.

Gloryoski, finished! In fact I am currently wearing it at the office, it's great being the boss.
I finished my wool hybrid kilt using what was left of the kilt <om made my brother and a very nice piece of green wool in my stash. Following the last bit of advice I got I decided not to use belt loops. On further consideration I agreed that there was no need for them.
Here are the photos from trying it on last night. (Not fully kitted up.)

I think it is a little long so I will hitch it up a bit so as to have a proper amount of knee showing.
Thanks to all how have commented and advised me through the process.

As mentioned yesterday I wore my new kilt to the office. After getting home my son took some pics of me kitted up for work and I thought I might share.
Thanks for all the assistance,
Christoph

When I started this project the concept was to make it using the x-kilt instructions just using wool rather than cotton broadcloth. The further I got into it the more I felt that I needed to do by hand rather than by machine. I also discovered that I was going to want interfacing and lining, so, this turned into a much more involved project than originally planned. I figure that now I have a (sort of) semi-traditional/contemporary box pleat kilt. I will say that after wearing it all day yesterday I am quite satisfied with the results. My next kilt project will probably be a true x-kilt (with cargo pockets) in light/medium weight 100% cotton canvas. This canvas is in a similar weight to the cargo shorts that I usually wear for work when it is warm enough (spring through fall).
