No thanks, I like it here.

I sometimes get a little annoyed that conversations are restricted from following natural development. But I like it here.

However if Christianity is unwelcome, I might have to find another place to hang my bonnet. I have not and will not preach my relegion to anyone. Everyone has to find their own path to Heaven or Hell, and I'm not so comfortable with my own salvation to claim to be able to guide another on the path.

    Hey Hank, Cleanup, isle 2!!

As open minded and accepting of other's opinions as I am, a couple of the comments made thus far in this thread are Really Offensive, both to me and, I'm sure, several others. Can we tank those comments or even the whole thread?

I'll have to photograph the two swatches I received, but here's a reasonable image of the Ancient (which is lighter but very nice)

Can we tank those comments or even the whole thread?
There were some legitmate posts here about the clergy tartan, in their defense.

Just my opinion...I'm just happy to be here!

    Cheers,

here, here! I couldn't care less about the religious talk, I just choose to ignore it. However the bashing is uncalled for.

I feel bad for Galant, who was interested in talking about a tartan. Next time Galant, made just name the post after the tartan and leave the G word out of the title.

    give it the axe Rufus!

The "offending" posts here, gentlmen, had nothign to do with religion. Galant's very question centered on whether it would be considered appropriate for a man of faith, who is not a clergyman, to still wear the Clergy tartan in honor of his faith. How are we going to discuss that without mentioning God? (aka, the "G-word," as if God has somehow become an offensive term).

No, the offensive posts here had nothing to do with religion. They had to do with people suggesting the assasination of homosexuals, which if you think is advocated by any legitimate Christian sect, you are sorely mistaken.

And I'm sure those comments were not meant to be taken literally, but the point is they should not have been made at all.

back to the topic, Galant, have you taken a look at the Clark tartan as an alternative?

    Aye,
    Matt

    Thanks Matt.

    I hadn't considered it. Yet.

Whilst I can acknowledge the respect owed to those who dedicate themselves to service within the Church/a church, the lines seem a little blurry, since that service can cross denominational lines.

As a seminary graduate and Christian man whose hope for life is centered wholly around God and giving a lifetime of service towards Him, I can see myself as a similar candidate as those who sign up with a denomination.

In some ways the whole idea of this is to have a tartan which carries affiliation with something of a more spiritual nature, representative of my place not in a geographical or biological family, but a spiritual one, and/or as a servant of God.

It also occurred to me that designing one could be an option. It's just that the clergy tartan already existed, and I liked it.

Apparently, this was a little too vague for some people!!! If you're not commenting about the Clergy tartan, shut your trap! It's that simple. I can't believe that I have to repost something of this nature after writing a warning a few hours earlier! Come on!

I make reference to the new rule as created by Hank:

    • If you dont agree with a topic and feel you must post something saying as much then dont post a reply. If you dont care about a topic then dont post a reply. If you dont have anything constructive to add to a post then dont reply.

I'm not going to delete this thread, because it has a lot of useful information. It's not worth getting rid of the 90% great information to destroy the 10% crap that NEVER belonged on this thread, or forum for that matter. In respect for Galant, I'll leave this thread open for the time being, so that he can have all of his questions about the clergy tartan answered. However, if things progress in a similar manner to the past two days, I'll just scrap this whole thread.

Thanks Jimmy, good info on the tartans. I've check them out and there's some nice ones there.

When I get to Scotland I'll seek out places where i can view them, perhaps Edinburgh.

I like the green clergy, and in spite of it's name, has a lot of blue in it.
My two favourite colours are green and blue, isn't it great that so many tartans contain both!!
