Where abouts is Dumfries in relation to Edinburgh? I am expecting the misfortune of spending some time in France (Brest, up north) in July. My present plans have me hopping onto a ferry and heading over to the bonnie land of Scots. Having visited both places, I assure you I'd rather be in Scotland!
I'd venture to think it would be quite enjoyable making 1Malt's aquaintance and seeing his bonnie B&B. Travel must be limited though... I'll be very limited on time and can ill afford a car. Be it not for ScotRail... I wouldn't even get to head to the fine city of Glascow nor would I be able to patronize my favorite fish and chips shop, Cafe Lido, in Helensburgh!
Blazerrrr-
Dumfries & Galloway is in the Soothwest corn'r o Scotland.... Dumfries is the largest toon in D&G... just across the bairder fraim England... oan the River Nith- whot runs tae the Solway Firth....
we ayr aboot 1 1/2 oours drive fraim baith Glasga an Edinbrrra...
here's a map fur ya....
the train station is liter'ly across the road fraim us....
I'd bae happy tae pour ya a malt upon yer arrival....

We're working up a trip to Scotland this summer, probably be flying in to Edinburgh and then going North to see friends, so will miss your place...maybe next time!
I like "Rabble" just fine, but if the nominations could be pried open a wee bit I'd like to suggest "Pleat". If there be more than a dozen, it would become a "Deep Pleat".
I'm reminded of an old Jonny Carson sketch, when he suggested the following:
a Bribe of Politicians
a Rash of Prostitutes
Kilted Teacher and Wilderness Ranger and proud member of Clan Donald, USA
Happy patron of Jack of the Wood Celtic Pub and Highland Brewery in beautiful, walkable, and very kilt-friendly Asheville, NC.
New home of Sierra Nevada AND New Belgium breweries!

Damn my poor grasp of geography. For whatever reason, I had convinced myself that Edinburgh was pretty much due West of Brest, France. A good look at Google Earth reveals that I was grossly mistaken.
From what I see on Google Earth, the only UK cities I might have a chance of visiting are Portsmouth (rather enjoyed it when I was there in 2000) and London (Rather enjoyed myself there as well). Truth be told though... If I were going to shell out the money to make the trip, I'd much rather go to Scotland, but a few days simply is not enough time. I'd be overly rushed, and would ultimately have a lousy time.
I WILL make it back to Scotland one day!

mudd, check out House of Edgar's Ancient Hunting MacIntosh as well as Lochcarron. I was hemming and hawing between Lochcarron's ancient and modern hunting, and then I saw the House of Edgar's ancient while in Scotland. That's what I ended up getting. It's quite different and looks brighter to me. I believe that is what Hamish has as well.
