The first excursion into kiltdom for this noob was an original UK in olive drab.

If that was the only kind of kilt I could get my hands on, I would not wear one for love or money. For larger sizes, UK makes a str8 tube shape. Being a farmboy and deadlifter and kettlebell fan, I am not a str8 tube from the waist down.

If you fit the shape of a UK all well and good. If you have a large waist (over about 46 I think but certainly 52 and over) caveat emptor. Mine fits fine in the waist and is ultra tight around the hips.

When I asked the phone rep what waist size I would need to fit a 59.5 seat, he recommended a 60 waist and having it darted at a tailor. Methinks not.

So for bigger lads, this noob has to reccomend FK or RK for a modern kilt. Also Michelle at AK seems to be willing to make one to my size.

On some people they look great. On me it looks like an olde regulation fringed fanny tube. To their credit they would buy it back in new condition or even trade it in if worn. Against their account, I have never ever purchased a pair of "fat pants" that was the same size in the waist and hips. Strange notion of serving large customers.

Small and medium sized lads should do fine but I still recommend having one made to measure or making it yourself. If you can't or won't do the work or tolerate the jones, a UK it is......

Thank you I feel better now.

P.S. if anyone has need of a size 52 olive original UK p.m. me if your seat is also about the same number I will hook you up with a deal you can't refuse.......

I have 2 UK's and love them both. my newest is a desert camo original..My first is a black original.. I recently lost a lot of weight and the black original no longer fits me, but my wife (being a fiery red haired irish lass who loves to see me in kilts) has deemed it necessary for to me buy more UK's (and a couple traditional as well)... her goal (and mine) is to have enough kilts to wear a different one everyday...and have one for every occasion...

My new UK, is a very lightweight "ripstop" desert camo... while being great for the hot Georgia summers, is not going to be as durable as the black original was/is. I will be getting a new black original soon... and a couple more UK's... I really like the SWK's but unfortunately they don't carry the tartan I want (USAF)

I have just my olive original, and I love it, I wear it during winter which gets pretty cold in Portland, the coldest I've worn it in is like 25 plus some decent wind, I was pretty warm, except for my knees and upper calf which was totally exposed, I like it a lot, the pockets are useful, but I'd still enjoy a sporran, just so I've got the extra room for storage. I like the UK a lot, they're great, though a tartan would be nice, just for the look.

I dig my U.K. olive original as well. The only thing is, in my size (friggin huge) they don't have much waist to hip taper. Like 3 inches. So I would have to get one four inches too big in the waist, and try to find a tailor who could do that surgery.

For me, it is cheaper to have one custom made by Steve @ Fk or Robert at Rkilts.

But I do like what they have done for kilts... Just don't like the way mine is girlie tight in the butt.
