Kilt Length ?

My Clan just bought a bunch of Kilts and demand that they all be 23"
So not every one bought them . after seeing what the supplier did I am Glad I did not buy in the package deal.
Clansmen knit wear just cut 1 inch off all ready made kilts that were 24"
the kilts looked realy bad ,they had a tartered ridge at the bottom unhemed.
all due to some one wanted 23" kilts and not 24"

It doesn’t exactly offend me, but it does look to me that the kilt is too large, or, that the wearer is (too?) modest and wishes the kilt to overlap the hose tops and thereby display no skin. Just my two cents.

This "demand" by your Clan is one of the most bizarre, ignorant kilt-related things I've ever heard of!

Anyone who knows anything about kilts knows that the length varies from person to person.

Reminds me of the Maid of Honour at a wedding, who insists that all the Bridesmaids wear a style of dress that looks good on her, but on nobody else!

Evidenly whoever made up this rule likes the way a 23" kilt looks on him.

Usually, off-the-peg kilts I've seen for sale are 24" length. Too short for me! (I'm 6'4" and anything less than 25" doesn't look right on me... one of my kilts is 25.5".)

Military kilts are 27" regardless of the man's height, or at least they used to be.



BTW interesting that you say "my Clan" demanded this. The only person in a Clan who is in the position to demand anything is the Chief himself, no? I can't imagine a Clan Chief who doesn't know anything about how kilts are made. Just as a point of interest, which Clan is it, and who is the current Chief?
