Re: POLL-Do you want this tartan?

I am not against feedback at all, but I think much of the feedback is at best limited in scope and at worst misleading. As tartans become more and more specialized they apply to a smaller and smaller group. I think that this may become the case with this project.

This is not to say that discussion in general here on XMTS is a bad thing all I am saying is that knowing that someone who is not a Christian is not interested in a Christian tartan is about as useful as knowing that a vegetarian is not interested in joining me for a steak dinner. Imagine if this was a regional or district tartan say for San Francisco, California. Not being a native or even resident of that city and state I would probably not be the target audience. The only advise I could likely offer would be my own aesthetic opinions, but since I would not be a buyer of the resulting tartan, my opinion should probably carry little if any weight in the discussion.

My understanding of the OP was that the "Christian Tartan" referred to the design, spirit, and idea for a new tartan, not the actual name itself. But, I could be wrong. I don't see any reason to rush this process at all. If it is done, we should take our time and do it right.
    I agree in full.

Sorry for the delay. I was away on vacation. Your explanation of my reasons are quite sound mookien. I wanted a group effort for design and cost reasons. Also I felt that for one man alone to design a tartan based on the basic tenaments of Christian faith seemed a tad arrogant without the input of fellow believers.

In the end however, this project did not get nearly the support I was looking for to move forward. While I thank everyone for your input and advice and I do not want to stifle discussion on ANY topic in the future, I would ask folks to re-read the original message. That was where I stated that the question put forth was not whether you thought this was a good idea or not. That was not what I wanted to get into at all. I think we could have avoided alot of unnecessary back and forth on the overproliferation of tartans, the branding of a tartan on behalf of a group, why people thought it was a bad idea, at least one message of complaint being sent to the mods, etc.

Again, not a complaint just a suggestion that we could have stayed a bit more on topic. I, personally enjoyed the discussion and hope you all had a wonderful Christmas/holidays and will have a great new year. I now consider this discussion closed.

    All the best,
    Hugh

    The only registered Christian Tartan

I designed what I believe to be the only Christian Tartan that shows the crucifixion of Jesus in colour.
It was not designed for any particular group or church but for all Christians to wear their faith boldly.
This tartan was registered on the STR in August 2010
See the explanation of the colours, etc. on www.mightymentartan.com
The name was take from the Bible and I quote "The mighty men of David"
It is woven in South Africa and has been sold and sent to Christians all over the world.

I'm a member of the Tartans Authority and there is now a Christmas Tartan. For those of the other Christian-Judeo side, there is also a Jewish Community tartan (yes, designed by a Rabbi). Why bother as there are many other ways of proclaiming your faith.
I would however throw in for an X Marks the Scot Tartan!

There is such a tartan, Cathy. It's used as a background here and you can see the details here

There is an X-Marks tartan, it is the screen background you see on the forum, and at the top of the page is a picture showing several kilts in the tartan being worn.

It has been woven in both PV and wool.

    to TurboKitty and Artificer:
OOOOHHHHHH that's pretty! Who mills it? Who has it in stock? or do I have permission to get it woven for me by Dalgliesh?

    Thanks for the input!
