Your choice of words indicates a certain level of intolerance on your own part, perhaps. I find that most snide, smirking remarks directed at me while kilted are from snooty liberal types. But, I certainly would condemn any particularly leaning community as a "nightmare", nor let it dictate my clothing choices....

To me I like my kilt it is part on my heritage and clan (Anderson) but that it, it's an article of clothing and nothing more, yes it sends out a statement “Hi look at me I'm not dressed like you” but that is all, I don't look at it any difference that a smart suit ect.
Or is it that most of you live in the US of A and you feel left out and away from Scotland and you put on an act more so than people that actual live in Scotland.
I have only one thing to say about the original post above .

[EDIT:] The original post I placed here has been bothering me for a number of days. I withdraw it without reservation and apologise to persons I may have offended.
I intend to avoid all comment on similar issues in future.

Try the Daily Mail or Telegraph to get the alternative perspective. The amount of bile directed at Scots there is just something else.
Getting back to the original subject, I wholeheartedly agree. There really is a limit to the depth anyone (of sound mind that is) can discuss the relative merits of wearing any garment, let alone a kilt. Sadly little discussion of any other subject is permitted here nowadays which does limit ones option somewhat.

You make a fair point Phil. I have observed same and I condemn those equally.

right ,back to the serious stuff. WHERE are all the virgins.I have looked under stones and in the trees , none in the pubs and clubs, fraid they dont exist. On a less serious note, I pay £300 pound for a kilt I want my wear(only possess 2) out of them before I pass of this world and my sons have them. The only thing apart from a kilt that I am glad i bought is a Dinner Suit, 14 years and still good and worn regularly. Thats 3 major clothing investments, small potatoes really, but boy oh boy I feel good in a kilt and to wear one does feel special. Heres to us , whose like us , Cheers

Nobody, not even Hamish, has "a closet stuffed with more kilts than the Gold Brothers sell in a week" MOR.
Please let us keep out of petty squabble between nations or attempting to justify making statements on the grounds that "they did if first" and indeed one can find plenty of bile on both sides elsewhere. We do not want it here as well and thus certain subjects are forbidden for good reason.
Certainly that can be frustrating at times but it helps this forum to avoid the excesses that can so easily break out.

WoW 8 Pages.....and counting, once again sorry, but I do like some of your replies and more than one has put me in my place, and was open to criticism and quite welcome too, but it still seems to me that the people that wear the kilt have more respect for it than live in Scotland I have no idea why that is, but I do see some men are taking a liking to it for rugby matches ect so that is a start.
So good luck to you people from around the world that wear the kilt with pride.

Well Richard, I think you hit the nail on the head with that, doesn't matter what you do in your kilt(in public ) as long as you do it with pride.

And therein lies the rub, eh?
I think that we American Scots hold on to our Scottish identity fiercely, and rightly so, because we were forced out by the nobility. With clinched fist, we'll hold our heads high and shout it loudly, "You may steal our homes and country, but as long as there's living breath within us, you'll never steal our heritage!" It's our way of 'coming home again."
I'll wear my kilt with pride, whenever the hell I want, and I'll gladly spit in anyone's eye who dares to tell me I can't.
