Me? I'm born and bred in Glasgow, although my parents and forebears all came from the West Highlands. I think someone may be confusing me with Newsome (whom I quoted as one of the references used in the history of the kilt) who is indeed an American.

apologies
Sorry Robbie thats my fault. I misread 'cos I'm sneaking looks on the works computer while I should be logging on to policies and care protgrammes.
What a relief to find you are, after all, a Scot.
And that doesn't alter the fact that I still agree

In this respect, I have just re-read my earlier posting and have realised that it could be misread as some form of personal criticism of Bear. I do hope he has not taken it this way, and if he has I apologise most sincerely for any bad phraseology on my part which could lead to such a misunderstanding.
Robbie,
I just re-read your post looking for some kind of personal slight and still couldn't see one. I didn't think of it until you mentioned it, so no apologies necessary.
Everything I've read leads me to believe the kilt was first worn in Scotland. Where the little kilt was first worn, I don't know.
I don't like Newsome's style. Too biased for me to consider it a reference text. There are a lot of others that agree with him but state their case in a more logical manner.

Phew. That's what I thought. I'm not going senile after all.

Historical debate aside, in the end what it all boils down to for all of us is one thing.....
It's good to be kilted!

It was tongue in cheek Robbie, I don't think I'd dare get the wrong side of you.
