Ok, I'm switching to "TCHD" with you, Nathan
I agree a range of photos would be more informative to newcomers.

On Xmarks, THCD is the more traditional acronym...
My definition has a link to 1 Kilt 10 Looks for a range of photos, so we're good there.
I'm reconsidering and thinking maybe it would be better to use a parallel construction in the last sentence of my post, so both the traditional and modern examples are general?
"There is a lot of room for grey area between the poles of tartan, tweed, and tattersall THCD and something like a utility kilt worn in extreme cyber-punk style."

OH for goodness sake stop it Chaps! This discussion has been had more than a while ago THCD, or TCHD and THCD, right or wrong, was the result. Come on we are trying to come to some sort of sensible result here. Let us not fall out over a bl**** C!

Hi Jock, I thought the smiley gave away the humour in my post, but maybe not.

I'll admit it, the fly plaid puts me off...
Perhaps it's time for a simplified "One-Kilt, 5 Looks-THCD edition":
1. Casual: Shirt (in cold weather add sweater/jumper), kilt, sporran and strap, kilt hose, brogues.

2. Daywear: Shirt, tie, tweed kilt jacket, tweed waistcoat/belt, kilt, kilt pin, sporran and strap, kilt hose, flashes, sgian dubh, brogues, (add balmoral, clan badge, cromach, laird's plaid or other "official muckety-muck wear" when necessary- i.e. Steward at a Games, Convenor, etc.)

3. "Formal" Daywear: Shirt, tie, black Argyll jacket, black 5-button waistcoat/belt, kilt, kilt pin, sporran and strap, solid kilt hose, flashes, sgian dubh, brogues.

4. Black Tie- Formal shirt, black bowtie, Regulation Doublet/Prince Charlie Coatee/Black Argyll, tartan/formal waistcoat/formal belt, kilt, kilt pin, dress sporran, Argyll/Diced/Solid hose, formal shoes/bar-buckle brogues.

5. White Tie: Formal shirt, white bowtie/black bowtie/jabot, formal doublet, kilt, kilt pin, dress/hair sporran, Argyll/Diced hose, formal shoes/bar-buckle brogues.

Between the photos already existing here on the forum we should be able to cobble this together easily.
David I was thinking the same thing and was discussing the idea with Nathan last night.

Without getting too unwieldy, perhaps two pictures in each section, showing two people's interpretations of that aspect of THCD?
