but the fact that you say the highlanders would not be told what to do,well I think they would have done as they where told , or it is they who would have been cut in two. don't forget, in those days it was "my way or the highway" they probably had very litle choice, "do as you are told or else". they probably didn't have a union, or any rights at all, just the right to do as they are told.the free thinking workers where not as abundant as they are today.

Obviously the English took a very different view to authority than the fiercely independent Highlander!

robbie you banter about this word "independent" the scots have not been independent for a very long time.
you aslo say "candidate for membership of the Flat Earth Society" for someone who disagrees with you. you must be the president of said society.unwilling so see any other point than your own.now the first part of your history lesson was very interesting. then you started letting bitterness creep in, the chip on your shoulder rule your head.lots of things where invented by chance or accident.like I said, I may have proof rawlinson invented the small kilt, but you would still never admit it.'bout time you got over things that happened 100's of years ago. there in lies the problem with history, bitterness.or we won so we make up the lies. makes no difference, still not accurate. someone mentioned in another post about the scottish tartan authority.
just because you call yourself "authority" does not make it so.another bunch with a chip on their shoulders, if their website is anything to go by. what is needed is an independent study by a none English or Scottish person who is just interested in the facts.I don't care about feelings, all we need are facts. now like I said before,it was a man, or group of men, humans, brothers, cousins. whatever.who invented the kilt
lets just get over it and wear the bloody thing.
If I ever met you I would be the first to offer my hand , and buy you a pint , I don't give a **** about what our grandfathers did. I have friends from scotland , yes the ones who don't consider themselves as Brits, a few German friends too.I'll say it again I don't give a **** about what our grandfathers did.so please lets just stick to the facts.

Great link to Matthew Newsome's site.
I've only skimmed over a few of the pages, but I was pleasntly surprised by this quote from his first time wearer's page...

"Keep this in mind throughout. Unless you are a member of a military regiment, a pipe band, or some other quasi-military group that has a specific dress code, your kilt is not a uniform. It is an article of clothing, just like your trousers, and you should feel free to accessorize it however you think best."

Kind of reminds me of Bear's stand on kilt wearing.

    traditionalists...

It is an article of clothing, just like your trousers, and you should feel free to accessorize it however you think best.
    Al G.,

I think most of the "bluff old traditionalists" on the board would agree with this statement; I know I certainly do.

I think the point we are trying to make is that some (but certainly not all, and no one on this board) of the "non-traditionalist" kilt-wearers are just as "intolerant" as the traditionalists they accuse of being so. It seems to be the fashion today to attack anything traditional, and demand that everyone conform to non-conformity.

    Just my two bob's worth.
