Just a thought, but to treat Jackets as accessories to the kilt in a traditional sub forum is absurd. For many, a traditional kilt outfit, and yes let's not be semantic, but many traditionalists contend that the wearing of the kilt is an outfit consisting of Kilt, hose and upper body garments such as a jacket, jumper etc.. many times I have seen comments to the extent that a kilt and jacket is the equivalent of a Saxon suit.

If I go to purchase a Saxon suit I would expect a pair of trousers and a jacket. I would not expect to buy a pair of trousers and then be shown to accessories department to find a matching jacket!

Therefore to my mind for traditionalists the kilt and jacket are part and parcel of the whole and as such both should fit within the remit of how the traditional kilt should be worn.

I think it's important to note not just the comments about traditionalists feeling slighted/unwelcome/marginalized/whatever, but also which members feel that way. When many long standing members of a forum are expressing the same frustrations, it's something worth paying attention to.

I also think that it's worth remembering that however hip/street/counterculture/don't-care-about-Scottish-stuff you think you are, the kilt is a traditional garment along with all that entails. It just is. It's important. Lots of kilt wearers, whether total n00bz or old timers, would seem to agree. That's why they're here. They want to talk about it and share what they've learned with others, or help new guys who want to make sure they've got the pleats 'round back and aren't wearing white tube socks with their PC. To frustrate and alienate that segment of the membership is a mistake and a shame. If *I* can understand and appreciate how important this is, surely anyone can.

Incidentally, I still don't know what I'm allowed to post in this subforum at the moment.

    Please be patient Nathan,
This thread and this issue are still pretty new. There is a lot going on and a lot to consider. I have the Moderators giving me some very good council and advice.
    Please let us finish.

I'm happy to be patient, but since you've already moved 16 threads into the new sub-forums that nobody has really endorsed, it would be great to have some transparency about what council and advice you're getting and whether this is an actual discussion where we have a chance of making headway or whether you've already made up your mind. The fact that you have taken action while asking the regulars of this sub-forum to be patient is troubling.

Mods- how does "contemporary" differ from "everyday street wear"? I think this may be a confusing duplication.

Behind the scenes, up in the Moderator section, we've been having discussions - things should start to become clearer as things either vanish from the forum or take on subtle changes which it is hoped will make things more encompassing - to keep things simple there should soon be three style sections historical, traditional and contemporary as they seem to be the obvious ones and the appropriate items to go with those kilts will be appropriate for those three sections, so no more being transferred away from the section in which the original poster places it, unless of course it is placed in the wrong one by accident - a message to a moderator should sort that out.

It may take a little time for changes to be made as messages are passed along between people, but things will be sorted, never fear.

In the mean time, please place threads in the sections which seem closest to the right ones.

It's no good asking me for explanations as I have no idea what the thinking was behind the changes, but it probably seemed like a good idea at the time, I'm sure.

First the pruning needs to be done, the sorting out of the moved threads, the changes in wording - I might have to send out for pizza.

Sounds good. Just to ask, that change implies that How to Accessorize and possibly Putting it On Properly are subsumed by the other three -- a good thing in my opinion as those two options tended to add to confusion about where to post. Correct?
