Just finished Colin G. Calloway's White People, Indians, and Highlanders: Tribal Peoples and Colonial Encounters in Scotland and America -- a fascinating read about the shared history of displacement between Highlanders and Indians, and the troubled history of colonialism in Great Britain and the New World. Especially appropriate as I serve as vicar to an Oneida Indian congregation near Green Bay, WI.

Have also recently re-read John Sandford's Kidd series -- four novels about an artist and computer hacker. The Fool's Run, The Empress File, The Devil's Code, and The Hanged Man's Song. Highly recommend Sandford's Prey and Virgil Flowers series, too.

Also enjoyed not long ago Russell Brand's brilliant book Recovery: Freedom From Our Addictions. Brand is a brilliant actor and comedian, and he is spot-on about the life-changing spiritual program that is A.A. As a "Friend of Bill W.", I commend this one, too. (Mind the f-bombs, though, if that's a problem for you.)

    Ken Follett

When I was in camp working in the bush, I was a voracious reader.....no TV and only one radio station.....now that I'm retired and have been for 11 years, I read less often and sometimes miss the solitude that I could slip into in my imaginations.....I have always enjoyed Ken Follett novels and Jackdaws is no exception

Since my last post, I’ve finished Ready Player One - I even enjoyed the film in 3D much to my surprise - and have moved on to finishing up “Wool” by Hugh Howey. Surprisingly, not related to kilt-wearing lol

Just finished Dan Brown's Origin. Almost set a record in completing it. The more I read, the more I had to keep reading.
"Life may have its problems, but it is the best thing they have come up with so far." Neil Simon, Last of the Red Hot Lovers, Act 3. "Ob la di, Ob la da. Life goes on. Braaa. La la how the life goes on." Beatles

Finished Sir Walter Scott's The Abbot a while back. Moved on to The Fairy Faith in Celtic Countries by W. Y. Evans-Wentz (1911). Some anecdotal stories of Fairies/elves/brownies, etc. in what the author termed the "Celtic countries" of Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Manx, Cornwall and Brittany.

Finished that up & just started Border Raids and Reivers by Robert Borland. Only in by a couple of chapters, but has some interesting stories about the Borders of Scotland and England and why they were the way they were in the 15th-18th centuries.

I'll probably read volume 4 of Wilson's Tales of the Borders and Scotland after this.
