Both good choices... I find it interesting that re-creators tend to go with an 1870's-1880's look, while shooters tend to emulate the 50's television look. This is just a guess on my part, but I think it's all down to the fact that the leather gear from the 1950s TV westerns facilitates both drawing and holstering a six-gun, while the "period" leather gear is little more than a convenient way of carrying two pounds of shootin' iron on your hip. I suppose this is because the old timers knew the three basic rules of a gun fight: (1) have a gun; (2) have the gun in your hand before the trouble starts; (3) take your time in a hurry.
