Wow. You do realize that this does nothing to dispel the condescending comments regarding "men in skirts" don't you?
Just giving everyone a reality check.
Lol. Well, ....yeah. The very fact that mini skirts and slips are considered women's wear is arbitrary anyway (in my own mind and opinion) and the result of societal norms and upbringing that are subject to change... If you were an ancient Roman or Spartan solider, you definitely wore a mini-skirt. Anyway, I digress. As long as you don't go around announcing and advertising that you're wearing a ladies' slip under your men's kilt, the point is moot. (I mean, seriously. If you yanked down the pants of a hundred random people on the street, you'd probably be surprised at what you saw (or didn't see)).
But that's why I recommended (I forget where -- whether it was in this thread or another one) to consider a removable, detachable liner that would snap onto or velcro to the underside of the kilt, and that could (and hopefully would) be peeled off at the end of the day and laundered. Voila! No loss of freedom, PLUS good hygiene.

Re: New idea for underkilt
Way to go Mike S! I haven't owned any UW for the last 45 years and don't see the need to have any now. I clean the inside of my wool kilts with a bit of soap and water with a soft cloth, the outside the same way if neccessary. My other kilts of various fabrics go into the washing machine when needed. I wear a kilt at least four times weekly just because I want to. Every one has there own way of wearing our beloved garment and thats a good thing.

No mystery. Just a weak attempt at humor.

Re: New idea for underkilt
I would love to know how you guys manage it. I find I have to wear something in the way of underwear or else I have 'touchdown' and, frankly, rocks and low walls and outdoor benches tend to be really cold!!

Sounds like you need to learn how to sweep the pleats under you as you sit down so you're sitting properly on the inside of your kilt. . .
Which is NOT to say you either should or shouldn't be wearing underwear, it's a totally separate issue.

Sometimes I go around proclaiming things on a tshirt which may or may not be true, and I thank USA Kilts for making that possible.

Re: New idea for underkilt
I think the classic irish grandpa night shirts might make a good idea. otherwise ....this is why I own my own kilts and do not "loan" them out. if someone i know is wanting to wear a kilt but funds are tight... if they fitt into one of my old kilts that I no longer fit into...i give them the kilt after a trip to the dry cleaners for curtousy's sake.

Not singling you out CDNSushi, yours is just the most recent one I've seen.
My question - How much freedom do we need?

Re: New idea for underkilt
Fellows: Pardon my bluntness-but this is verging on the femmine. Instead of these options, do what was first done, before BVDS were made, get a shirt long enough to reach the edge of the kilt, minus 1 inch. I also concure with the sanatary reasons, I have reached the age where, like Benj. Franklin, "I cannot trust my ar*se to a fart" and need something more than a very pricey kilt betwixt me and social disaster.
So guys, forgett the Geshia girl, the Wimbletown tart &tc and just get a long shirt!
