Walter Scott The Bride of Lammermoor. And after reading The Monastery, jolly good it is too. (And rather different from Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor.)

I have to follow Jonathan B. I'm reading "The Old Manor House" by Charlotte Smith and the book of Matthew (Bible). I don't know why Jesus was so tough on Matthew, but I'm glad I wasn't around then. He would have been kicking my can down the road (metaphorically speaking, of course).

I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

"Old Irish & Highland Dress and that of the Isle of Man" by H.F. McClintock
I requested it from a local university via inter-library loan.

I've seen some of the pictures from the book online but it isn't the same as seeing the original at the proper resolution.

"The Art of Kiltmaking", Tewksbury and Stuehmeyer. I've just about finished the 7th pleat on my first ever traditional kilt, at Barb and Steve's Kilt Kamp.

I know, DK, but it still doesn't prevent one particular line from wandering about like a cow in India. Pleats 6 and 7 may need to come out and get sewn again. Hoopla!!!

Anathem by Neal Stephenson. It's a very long winded piece of speculative fiction (over 900 pages) but it is fantastic. Probably the best book I've read written after 1950 (when writing started to go down the toilets, IMO).
