Is their knowledge of Scotland low, perhaps?

    In the UK?
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!

    Nope, here in the States.

In their defense, it's only been when they've approached on the side I'm not holding my pipes and they may have not seen them.

I can say with a fair amount of confidence that I've never got that in my 40 years piping.

What I have often got is, if I'm on my way to or from a gig and I happen to not have my pipes in my hand, is people asking "where are your bagpipes?" to which I say "there in that case" or "there in the car".

I have been approached by tourists wanting photos. I have also been given free glasses of whisky at the pub. I have had ladies half my age try to pick me up. The only negative comment was from a couple of the under-educated classes who called me a cross-dresser.

    Back to the original question

Just warn her by calling up and asking if she would mind if you didn't wear pants on the date. She might be curious, or she might hang up and block you!

That happened in Glasgow walking up Buchanan Street. I got near the top and this Russian couple asked me for a photo, I was fully kilted.

I've had girls look at me. I've had neds trying to mock me.
