Ways to Make a Saffron Colored UK...

Thought with all the Irish blood about that a saffron colored UK would sell well. Asked HQ about it and of course its in the suggestion pile.

Got some feedback from the UK board that the caramel workman's color is close enough to traditional Irish saffron. I don't think so...not close enough for me.

Another suggestion was to dye the vegan white workmans. Saw a post here that the threads don't take the die...not sure if that was a regular or vegan workman's or if they both use poly thread. Know the white workman's is almost gone.

Other suggestions were to die a tan UK (I have a survival and an original in tan) saffron. Not sure that would work to give a true saffron.

Any feedback appreciated - and yes, I know, I can get a traditional cut saffron out there. I like the pockets on the UK for work.

    Thanks,

    Ron

Comparing the saffron kilt color to the UK caramel workman's the UK is already too dark and a much different color than the saffron.

Don't know that the brown in a khaki kilt could be overcome with a new dye and then there's the same old worry about polyesther thread in the UK.

UKHQ is saying there's no polyester thread in their vegan white workmans but a recent purchaser of three such kilts three months ago has found that the thread seems to be a polyester blend since the seams are not dying the same as the cloth.

So back to distant hopes that UK would make one.

I know Bear makes poly/viscose saffron kilts when he can, and I know I can lay out for a hand sewn, but still stuck on the idea that a saffron UK out of cotton or cotton poly would be a cool looking kilt for the Irish in us.

Found a cool site about the Royal Irish Rangers that shows a saffron kilt, guessing of wool.

My best guess is to try to strip the color of the UK first and then get some RIT dye and have at it. I thought I had heard of a Tie-dye UK or something before, so maybe it is an option. That is the only way i can think of it.

    Ron,

I have asked several people more familiar than am I about material, and they all gave pretty much the same advice as Miah did.
