Martin roy training log
And so it begins...
I'll have more later about my approach to throwing and training, along with pertinent background info. However, for the moment, I'm headed to Dixon this Saturday and Ventura two weeks after that to end the season.
Today will be a light day, mainly to loosen up and stretch - my shoulders and upper back are somewhat tight and sore from throwing hard on Sunday, followed by some easy wob and caber yesterday. I'll do some final tune-up tomorrow with hammer and wfd, and then easy into Dixon.
After three seasons of reading other logs on this site and NASGA, I decided it was time to put my routine out there with the hope that it will reflect progressive improvement on my part. And, maybe, if there is another older guy out there thinking about throwing - Did I mention I'm 59? - and reading this log, it will prompt him to pick up something heavy and heave it for all he's worth.
So, you folks are stuck with me now.
Martin

I didn't know you were 59! I'd have guessed not a day over 55!
The PR march continues. Knock out another one in these last two Games.

In recent years when Garry and I have been out in public together, people consistently think that he's the older brother. However, I was born in '53 and he was born in '57. To make him feel better I tell him it's due to his natural gravitas and mature demeanor.

"gravitas"....man, you're going to have to stop using these SAT words, or you're going to confuse LitTrog.

I took yesterday off entirely. In part because I needed the rest and in part because my daughter had a water polo game that needed watching.
It was the right decision because I'm much refreshed and ready for a good final session this evening at Shaffer Park. Some hammer, some wfd, and then I'll see where the mood takes me. I should be feeling fit for Dixon.
Also, I fudged a bit yesterday when I said I was 59. However, today I am officially 59 and my driver's license proves it.

Happy birthday, almost-a-geezer!
Recovery days are highly recommended...especially before an upcoming games.

Thanks for the birthday wishes. Even though I'm 59, all too often I still have the feeling that I'm really just the same kid waiting nervously for the first class to start at Emerson Junior High back in Pomona.
Ready for Dixon. Stretch and loosen up today and tomorrow.
Throw Saturday. Simple.
