strange crude army sporrans
My title pretty much says it all.
They're listed as WWII but I would think WWI, when most units didn't issue sporrans to kilted Enlisted Men and a variety of ad hoc sporrans and random canvas pouches are seen.
Seems to me that these originally might have been properly sewn and/or had proper belt loops, but as they fell apart were crudely laced together around the sides, and crude straps rivetted on.
I wonder if these repairs were done in a military unit, or if this lot was purchased cheaply as ex-army and used in theatre productions or what have you. (I've seen crude theatre sporrans quite a few times over the years.)
