Crotal kilt jacket?
Would anyone on this forum have a recommendation for a vendor or tailor who makes crotal (or very nearly toned) kilt jackets?
For as popular as it once was, it seems to be rather elusive, most likely owing to the challenges of its production. Nonetheless, I'd imagine there must be dyes that approximate such a tonality.

Crotal seems to be a bit indistinct as a colour, being redish-brown, and so open to great variation.
Your best bet would be to do an online search of weavers' cloths that fall into crotal shades, and then search for a tailor to make up the jacket in your desired style.
Bespoke tailors usually keep a wide range of swatch-books that show the options in colour, weight and texture of the cloths. The cloth is ordered-in as required.
The likes of St Kilda Store's online tailoring service offers both their stock cloths, and allows for the customer to specify a certain tweed or cloth if prefered, and various styles, combinations and details can be specified according to taste or desire. This allows you to decide on the stye and finish of the jacket, and specify the particular cloth - which gives you to get what you want, rather than what the retailer wants you to buy.

Carloway Tweed Mill weave a few crotal tweeds. Something like this might be what you're after but browse their catalog.

How about this, that our top tippler Charlie Maclean is togged-up in..?
Is this close to the colour and style you're after?

and in the tweed selection box choose 'ginger' and you should see something pretty close to what you're looking for.

I have never understood why brown tweed has nearly dropped out of fashion. Perhaps this thread may give the colour a boost?I hope so.
In being in the company, as a youngster, of many elderly(perhaps they weren't too old? But then, everyone over 40 seemed ancient!) tweed clad and immensely kind, shooting and fishing men, many of whom where kilted with the added smell, of damp tweed, gun powder, fish, port , whisky, tobacco and wet dog that oozed out of the cloth aided by the distinct smell of the crotal treated tweed, plus all sorts of stories of "daring do", like tiger shooting in India, Elephant shooting in Africa, Big game rifle calibers and so on, were magic to young "Jock's " ears and being in the company of minor and the occasional not so minor famous 'Earth movers" on the world stage was heady stuff! I remember it all fondly, I just wish that I could remember who some of them were!
Nevertheless, that smell of crotal treated tweed brings back memories of many happy times.
Out of interest is this "new crotal" just being used a a description for the tweed or the colours available or both?
