    tartan weaver...

I've played around with a tartan design program on the STA site (I think it may be the same one, actually), but nothing too serious.

My mother-in-law is a weaver by hobby, and I've always wanted to learn more about it.

    Cheers,

    T.

I have played with the site too. It's more fun than a video game for me.

I was wondering if anyone had actually had material produced and possibly made into something.

This program was recommended to me by Marton Mills in England. It's a much more detailed program. There is a trial download.

Personally, I prefer to play around with tartans in a graphics program. I designed the soon to be released Bear Kilts tartan that way.

I actually designed a tartan on this site about three weeks ago. They sent me an e-mail offering to register it as a tartan and weave it (10 meters) for about $1000. While I would love to have it woven for me, that is a little too expenxive.

The House of Tartan web site is really addictive, and it's fun to use it to design tartan. I'm just disappointed that the colors look so muddy on the final screen.

    Hi there!

I know, it's 3 years ago, but i played around with the interactive tartan weaver today and yesterday. It's not so bad, but as Barb says, the colors look so muddy on the final screen. And there should be some more colors, because i designed our own tartan, but we like the MacLeod of Harris dark green, ( hunting ) or the Farquharson hunting and this color isn't available.

Some minutes ago i looked at the WeaveMaker site, but there is no trial version of Weave Point anymore.

    Kind greetings from Austria

From time to time. It is a fun thing. I first used it to see what a tartan would look like when all I had was the thread count. It is wonderful for that.

Yes, it's not so bad to try some different tartans. Last evening i tried some new and this is one of them:

I think, it doesn't look so bad

Being a big Denver Broncos fan, I wanted a tartan that was orange, blue and white. I can't what colors are what there! I found it to be mostly useless trying to design with specific colors in mind.
