    Pittsburgh vs. Utilikilt

I think I've about made my decision but I'd like to get some input from those who have experienced the good and bad of kilts.

I'm trying to choose between a Pittsburgh kilt or the Mocker.

I like the hidden side pockets and while I prefer to not use the rear pocket, both companies appear to have incorporated it well so I may one day need it. I think I like the hidden apron pocket on the Pittsburgh. I also like the buttons on the Mocker apron. Has anyone ever had Pittsburgh add buttons to his aprons?

What I hope to get is a very crisp looking kilt with tight "swishy" pleats.

Any insight or suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    Freedom Kilts...

What about Freedom Kilts? Steve is a Marine, and offers some great-looking casual kilts -- if I ever get one of the modern casuals, it will be from him (in the Canadian cammies!)

Just follow his link at the top of the page!

    Cheers,

    Todd

Freedom did make it to the playoffs, but honestly the price tag was too far out of my budget.

I had thought about just going with the Pittsburgh and applying the buttons myself. I'd also like to workout a modesty strap similar to the Survivor that UK has.

First, both are awsome kilts. The inner side pockets on the PK are a little shallower that the UK, so you can hold less stuff, but you don't look as strange trying to get something out of the bottom either.

I'm not sure why you'd want to add snaps to the PK. The fastening system Jeff uses actually lets you go up or down a size or so, as weight fluxuates, whereas the mocker pretty much locks you into one size exactly with the snaps.

The PK could use another belt loop on the right side (right before the apron). Lacking this belt loop causes me to wear my Gerber in back rather than on my hip where I prefer it.

The cell phone pocket is a great addition too.

In short, I love both my Mocker, and my PK (I also have a lined one for those cold days, and UK doesn't offer that). All things considered I would probably buy another PK before another Mocker, but would get another Workman's before either.

I havent got a PK yet, but I've only heard good things about them.

I do have a mocker and I just love it, and even with the snaps its pretty adjustable as to size. Right now I am in my size 42 workmans which still fits even though I am actually wearing a size 38 kilt now.

If you do decide to get the PK, and you really like the look of the UK snaps on the front its a piece of cake to add them yourself. They dont even have to be functional, you can just add the top part and ignore the bottom piece of the snap.

Thats actually what I plan on doing with mine, since I like the look it gives the apron without having to wear a sporran.

Be advised that UK uses snaps and not buttons on their product. See the older threads from Riverkilt on his trouble with the snaps pulling out.
The snaps also go completly through the front, passing through the pockets on their way. Kinda weird to make a pocket and then close it right up.

Wizard, what are you talking about? The snaps dont go anywhere near the pockets on a mocker.

HUH? they do on both of my UKs. Now granted, my Survivor is one of the prototypes.
