Scottish Gaelic now available on Duolingo

I saw this posted elsewhere and thought I should share it here.

I have been using Duolingo for about a year to learn Spanish, and their platform works well for learning a new language. They have short lessons and you can do a little each day. I make it a point to do a minimum number of lessons/exercises every day (I'm currently on a 332-day streak). Over the long haul, it's very effective.

It appears that Scottish Gaelic is available on their web version as a "Beta" module. It's available on the mobile app too, although you may need to update the app to see it (that's what it took for me). Hopefully they will continue to expand its content.

When I went to see Julie Fowlis she told me I should learn Gaelic so when this became available I signed up, so far it has been a fun wee thing todo every day. Though I would like to pursue it in a more structured way.

I just added it to my app.

It’s a very different language from the French and German I studied in high school and college.

But it’s been fun so far. Would be a good supplement to a more formal course.

It's absolutely free. Just go to their website or download the app, create a user account, and start using it. They do have ads between lessons, though.

@Tobus ... thank you for the link. I’ve been using the Learn Gaelic website and “Speaking our Language” ... Duolingo is a nice add on for learning.

If you can swing it, I'd highly recommend checking out week-long (or more-long) courses in Scotland. I've heard many positive comments about the offerings at SMO (Sabhal Mór Ostaig) on Skye.
