News Clan Macpherson and Clan Chattan
It with sadness that I inform those of you who are of Clan Macpherson and Clan Chattan that Sir William of Cluny died this morning. The 27th chief of the Macphersons was born in 1926. He died peacefully at home at Newton Castle, surrounded by his family. Sir William was a well respected retired High Court judge and beloved chief, devoted to his clan in the 20th and 21st centuries. He was also an hereditary Vice President of the Clan Chattan Association. In both roles he will be succeeded by his second son, James Brodie Macpherson of Cluny and Blairgowrie.

Thank you ThistleDown for sharing this sad news. I only met him once, at a Clan Chattan Association gathering in 2015. I had the honor (and nervousness) of being seated next to him. He was very gracious to this American. Being quite a bit out of my element, I don't remember exactly what limited conversation we had, but I do remember his humor and engaging stories.

Sad to hear. Didn't know him at all, but in photos he was always a most striking presence. Reading the articles clarifies that somewhat. It would seem we are all a bit diminished by the loss.

Very sad. My connection to Scotland is through my grandmother, who's maiden name is MacPherson. My wife and I have talked about attending a clan gathering and I had hoped to have met him, even if only briefly. He will be remembered as a great patriarch.
