    Kilted Mailmen?!

I am a Letter Carrier with the US Postal Service. We're the uniformed folks, as opposed to the rural carriers. Just heard about this today at work (a HOT one, BTW!): Elements of our union (Nat'l Assoc. of Letter Carriers - NALC) are trying to get KILTS approved as part of the letter carrier's uniform. They're taking the resolution to the NALC's national convention in Boston soon.

So, who knows? Next year you might see kilted mailmen on your city routes! Here is the photo that accompanies the resolution:

    Is that a UtiliKilt...?

Looks like a UtiliKilt to me. I will have to show this to my boss at work, he is a reservist that was activated and is a mail carrier in Missouri.

That is indeed a Utilikilt. I think it is the "Mocker", (two rear pockets, two side pockets, all inside the pleats.) Now all we need to do to really dress up the U.S.P.S. is design a Postal Tartan, and get it registered for the letter carriers.

If this passes, ya'll should lobby Utilikilt to produce a postal worker's kilt. Just the right shade of blue, perhaps a postal worker logo, and a clip to hold your hat.

Nice!! That would start breaking down some barriers for others.

Actually, there already is a US Postal Service tartan, ITI#4166, designed back in 1997:

Plus, USA Kilts makes a solid semi-trad in "postal blue"...!

That's a Survival model Utilikilt with the side cargo pockets removed. Postal Blue used to be one of the color options for the Original UK (I have one).

US Postal Service kilts would be a great way to "deliver" the message to the public that a kilt is a mail, I mean, male garment.

As a UPS employee who has been told that he cannot wear a kilt to work, I would like to see that.

Now that would be an interesting uniform upgrade. I was glad to see mail carriers finally allowed to wear shorts so the comfort etc. of a kilt would certainly be a welcome advancement for many carriers.
