Cleaning an Old Leather Utnilikilt

So I bought the kilt in 2004 when my waist was 39. I ate my waist up to 44+ and sent the kilt to a friend in Canada. With my weight loss bringing me down to a 39 my friend sent the kilt back to see if it would still fit. God love the corset adjustments on each side. It does still fit. Just...well...after 16 years of being born in Seattle, roaming most of Arizona, vacationing in Canada...it kinda of...well...it stunk. Some foul odor from aging perhaps.

Started off by leaving it in the garage for a few months to air out.

This weekend broke down and took it outside and applied a LOT of saddle soap and a brush...hosed it all off and laid it on the hammock to air dry.

Seemed to work. No longer smelled "aged."

Once dry took it indoors to the handy massage table, laid it out, and applied over a jug of Chilhowee Buffalo Butter with Shea Butter Leather Conditioner and Restorer. Love that stuff, have used it for years on all my leathers.

The result was great. No smell, and well lubricated so it flows well.

This one back pocket leather Utilikilt was one of their first, if not their first, leather kilt.
