A number of vendors are now offering "Irish clan badges", which mimic the Scottish badge, except the crest is inside a cladagh ring.

Since I like to support the Scottish Tartans Museum, I will include a link to their online gift shop -- The Collins badge is available, although no picture:

    http://giftshop.scottishtartans.org/irishcrests.htm

You can get an idea of what these badges look like, and maybe Matt could send a picture of the badge.

However, I would give this warning: The Collins "crest" may or may not be the same as the one you describe, since the Irish clan system is not identical to the Scottish one. The maker may have simply picked a coat-of-arms that belonged to someone named Collins, and then used it for the badge.

The whole issue of Irish clans has been a contreversial one recently, given the McCarthy Mor Hoax and the recognition of some dubious claims by the Irish Goverment.

But, that aside, you may be one step closer to finding the Colllins's crest badge!

    Cheers,

    Todd

I may or may not have a Collins badge on the shelf currently. If so, I'd be glad to take a look and confirm if it is what you want.

I won't be in the museum today, so if you are in a hurry call (828)524-7472 and get Ronan to take a look for you. Or you can email the shop at tartans@scottishtartans.org and it may get answered today.

Otherwise, I can check for you tomorrow (Wed), though I may need a reminder, as I plan on sleeping between now and then!

Thank you for my vocabulary word for the day.

    From Pimbley's Dictionary of Heraldry:

Vulning - Wounding; in the act of wounding. This term is applied more particularly to the pelican, which, when shown in profile, is generally represented as wounding her breast. [PELICAN IN HER PIETY.]

from Latin vulnerâre, to wound, from vulnus, vulner-, wound.
