    The Art of Kiltmaking

Has anyone used this book to make a kilt? Any reviews, opinions, etc. I know the other is a very respected member here, and I have seen her shed light on issues time and again. However, I am curious as to how well that knowledge comes down on paper, and how difficult it would be for a novice to follow.

If that is the Barbara Tewksbury one, it is the BEST book out there. MANY have used it to make their first kilt.

I HIGHLY recommend it, especially over any on-line instructions.

I'll second that. Barb's book is a must have if you are thinking about making a kilt, or even just want to understand how one is constructed so you can accurately evaluate a kilt you want to buy or have bought. In fact, Barb has a section in the front on evaluating a kilt. I am using it right now form kilt I am making for my wife, and have referred to it many times since I bough it. Well spent money.

I've not read it. BUT, there have been many good reviews around.

It's quite the guide! Most of the directions are easily understood at first glance, the rest are understood as you really look at kilts and tartans. Barb and Elsie do a great job!

    Jonesing for the update!

I have the book, and have followed it to make three kilts, and I'm working on my fourth, with plans for at least 4-5 more at some point in the not too distant future.

I skimmed it once or twice before starting, and got the jist of it, but didn't fully understand the process at first. However, when I started working with material, everything made sense. To say the book is a great buy is an understatement.

It is unique in the world of kilt books and it is the only reference you will ever need for making a traditional kilt. Even if you don't make your own kilts - it will teach you how to tell a well made kilt from a poorly made kilt.

    Buy this book.
