ISO Lovat Blue jacket/vest in 42R
This past week, I wore my new kilt and the accessories I've acquired so far on two occasions ... first on Christmas Eve (on the left) to surprise my father ... and then a bit more formally on Christmas Day for dinner (on the right). The dark blue vest is just one I happened to already own, but I know it's not the best style for wearing with a kilt given its length.
There are definitely other items I'd like to acquire ... first and foremost, a jacket and vest in Lovat Blue, size 42R. I ordinarily wear a size 40R suit, but I've ready so many posts about sizing up ...
I've been searching Ebay and Etsy. I've seen all of the posts for Pakistani products and have been encouraged to avoid them. Vintage makes me a bit nervous because I know sizes ran smaller than they do today.
If anyone on the forum has a gently used jacket and vest in Lovat blue, size 42R, that you have been thinking of parting ways with ... or any recommendations on an online resource for a new set with good quality and reasonable prices ... I hope you'll reach out to me.
Many thanks and best wishes to one and all,
Kevin

Hi Kevin
Not necessarily Lovat blue - or used - I'm afraid but worth checking our some of the sales and offers at this time year.
I bought this jacket and vest from McCalls (www.mccalls.co.uk) for £150 (they still have it on offer - as well as dark green version for £200 and some other styles).
They also have another promotion running at the moment (I guess it excludes sale items) with 20% off - and as you wouldn't pay VAT you would save another 20% on top of that - although this would be offset by shipping and (I guess) import duties.
Still worth a look.
This is some of their current tweed range:

Thank you very much!
I had not been aware of McCalls so thank you for steering me toward them. Especially considering the sale right now ...
I presume their quality is good or you would not recommend them ...
The Lovat green jacket/vest is nice, but I'm afraid I have my heart set on Lovat blue. I think it's a nicer pairing with the Colquhoun Ancient tartan of my kilt.
I am also, however, looking for a Prince Charlie jacket and waistcoat for more formal occasions, so will check them out. So many different options even among the black options! Will have to do my homework.
Thanks again and best wishes,
Kevin

While the Lovat blue will certainly pair well with your kilt, for what it's worth, the ancient colourway works well with moss or Lovat green as well.

Thank you, Shane. I'm sure you're right. And I might very well end up with a Lovat green jacket and vest if I can't find what I'm looking for in Lovat blue. Perhaps over time, I'll acquire both!
Given the similarities in our tartans, I'm sure what works well with yours would work well with mine.
Sending you best wishes,
Kevin

All good options! Your Highland wardrobe is an "embarrassment of riches." I have a long way to go ...

It is for sure; however, with one exception, all my kilt jackets are vintage and purchased for quite reasonable prices. Takes some patience but definitely worth it when you find a great piece.
Good luck in your search,
Shane

That's a beautiful jacket! I'm not sure a 40R would fit me well. While the sleeve length looks good for me, I'm worried about the measurement across the shoulders. The snuggest suit jacket I own that fits me well measures 19" across the shoulders. The bigger issue is I'm really hoping to find one with a vest!
But thank you for thinking of me and replying to my post. I really appreciate it.
Best wishes to you for a Happy New Year,
Kevin
