Kilt facings
I recently got the Art of Kiltmaking book by Barbara Tewksbury. Looks very well laid out and fairly easy to follow trying my hand at kiltmaking. Authors also sound experienced with highland dancing kilts which I hope to make for some friends too.
Examples of how the pleat size is worked out early on using 36inch waist (good number as its exactly 1 yard) and assuming half waist size for pleat area, says apron and underapron take 1 yard (2 x 18) which makes sense, and 1 yard for "facings and such", the remainder of the 6/7/8 yard cloth for the pleats. What are the facings in question here? I figured it was simply apron, underapron and pleats taking up the yardage.
