    Bespoke Argyle made in Canada

My very handsome husband owns 2 kilts - a Modern Buchanan & a Hunting Buchanan. He already has the Prince Charlie kit & we are now ready to get him all peacocked out in an Argyle jacket & vest. Sadly, this has become a rather vexing dilemma. I haven't seen any in Canada (specifically south western Ontario) that are appropriate. Either they are off the peg black Barathea with silver buttons or that ghastly Lovet green tweed that makes the puir mon look like a haggis - no offence to those of you gentlemen who look grand in it.
Being Scots, I can't help but want a jacket that will go with both tartans. The common colour for both is a dark green. As will be any future kilts - or else!
I'm hoping some one might direct me to a tailor here in Canada from whom I may order swatches to select an appropriate dark green tweed and have them make it up as well. Although I'm not opposed to making a purchase out of Canada, I think it's fair to say that most of us like to keep these talented craftsmen and women employed in our own Country.
I'd be grateful for suggestions from any of you Canadian lads who have had experience in this matter.

Finding a Tailor, anywhere, capable of making an Argyle Jacket is difficult.

If you would like to contact me through e-mail or phone I can order Argyle Jackets and Waistcoats custom made in Scotland.

If you have a swatch of fabric similar in color to what you want I can inquire for you.

    Good luck with that...

It's funny and true what the Wizard is saying. Just the different interfacings and structuring canvases that tailors put into a regular suit jacket are enough to drive anyone nuts!
On the other hand, if you can afford it, you can pay someone else to worry about all that stuff.

Ditto what Steve said. The only tailors making Argyle jackets I know of are in Scotland. So whether you order from a Canadian retailer, or a US retailor, the jacket will most likely still be made in Scotland. And you are going to have a much easier time finding made-to-measure than true bespoke jackets.

Steve at Freedom Kilts is in BC and can help you. Burnets & Struth in Ontario is another good option.

We are somewhat further south (NC), but still happy to work with you. Our Argyle tweed selection can be found here:

Further to what Matt and Steve have said, I would check out the following vendors in the Southern Ontario region:

    www.kiltscanada.com

    www.scottishcompany.com

    www.weetartanshop.ca

I have dealt with all these retailors in the past and highly recommend them all, however, as others have said getting a bespoke jacket may not be the most realistic goal, I do believe the three vendors listed would have to order from Scotland, and the jacket ordered would most likely be off the peg.

I do have "an in" with the tailors who make many of the jackets you would buy off the peg and do have the ability to order fully custom made jackets.

FK is no longer producing our Kilt-Cut-Sport-Coat in house but having them made in Scotland for us. These folks do an incredible job.

The range of available fabric is almost limitless. And the chances for details other than those found on standard Argyle, Braemer, or Crail jackets are completely up to the customer.

The prices aren't too bad either.

Didn't realize FK was having the jackets made in Scotland now... Make note to self.

That's because I haven't announced it before this Ted.

I am still waiting on the first production jacket to arrive.

    Strangely, that is exciting...

Look forward to hearing about it. Sounds like there are a lot more possibilities than the original FK jackets which seemed neat in the first place.
