    PVC Kilt?

I saw this PVC kilt in black, a 'faux leather' one, I was curious, would any of you ever wear such a kilt in this material - I guess it was a kind of contemporary kilt or would it look too much like a leather skirt?

It was a little pricey at £95, but it was the last one and in my size. Should I take the plunge and buy it or save my money?

Save your money. For a little more you can have a real leather one from union kilts.

    Thumbs up

I agree with 7Miles and Lady M. The real thing isn't that many more $$$$$$$.

And I think you would be much happier with real leather if that's the route you want to go in a kilt!

There's only one thing that's like leather and that's leather - go for the real thing.

If you like it, buy it! It may not be a leather kilt, and don't pretend that it is. It can be worn outside of the Clubs as well, if you wish.

I wouldn't. PVC is a rotten investment for the money. I received a black PVC jacket as a gift once. Looked like a REALLY nice leather jacket but it wasn't. I still accepted the gift graciously and wore it because it looked good -- for a while. Then it started looking horrible... In fact, I've had many experiences with various PVC items.

PVC tends to wear quickly and when it does, you'll have "chunks" of it peeling and falling everywhere. It also can crease badly in the wrong places and then it's almost impossible to undo (can't iron plastic)... It also can tear quite easily and stretch too (not in a good way -- think: taffy). Finally, the fabric doesn't breathe AT ALL -- it's like wearing a rubber suit. Finally, if you live in a cold climate -- fuggetaboudit! PVC gets hard and loses its suppleness. When it's older it will even split and crack in the cold.

Seriously, save your money. I would only ever such a thing if it were given to me free -- I would never buy it. A real leather kilt on the other hand would be a different story... I think they look really, really cool! But still, the uses (in my mind) are a bit limited for everyday use.

I bought a PVC black kilt about 2 years ago, wear it now and then although I prefer traditional tartan kilt. PVC kilt makes a change and I have found that it keeps the pleats remarkably well. Good to be different at times.
