The Cochrane tartan might be appropriate, since Lord Thomas Cochrane is considered to be the "father" of their navy.

Any tartan with a green and yellow, their national colours, would be good!

I wonder if there are any piping bands in Rio?

There is at least one pipe band, along with a St. Andrew's Societies in Rio & Sao Paulo,-- and the Brazilian Naval Light Infantry maintain a pipe band as well.

Hey, Cajun, you're a mine of information!

Methinks something lightweight in the kilt department if you go to support the Scottish Brits in Rio!

BTW, can you samba in a kilt?

One of our former St. Andrew's Society Presidents was from Brazil -- her parents were missionaries there.

Unreal! It's a small world sure enough!

And, oops, I should have said we could support ANYBODY of Scots origin at the Games, whomever they represent now, not just homegrown Scots themselves. Sorry about that!

Have we ever had an X-Marker from Brazil, or South America in general? And, has anybody ever been to Rio in a kilt?!

As you can tell, I just love announcement days for big events! Next up will be the draw for the football World Cup in South Africa 2010. I think it's in early December after the qualifiers finish. Shame we Scots aren't there but, well, we'll just have to get it right for the next time.

Samba-swinging kilts in the sunset on Copacabana Beach - now there's a thought!

Well, I bet they're all dancing tonight!

It's such a good thing that they'll have an Olympic Games that they can more easily travel to.

Maybe we'll have to have an X-Markers Rio get together!

BTW, anybody, any thoughts on a green/yellow tartan yet?
