    Stillwater and Tartanista kilts

Has anyone out there in the community ever purchased a kilt from Stillwater, or an e-bay kilt from Tartanista? The kilts look nice, but I don't know about the quality or fabric used. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks

Stillwater is famous for customer service and speedy delivery(think Wile E. Coyote ordering from Acme). Their wares are good for the price, though they are made in Pakistan or some similar place. The standard is a decent kilt, but all of them except the heavyweight wools are arcrylic which has pros and cons. Pro is cost, machine washable, easy care. Con is they wrinkle and pill, but you can probably live with it. Arcrylic burns readily, so I wouldn't wear it near campfires or while welding, but for most situations it's ok. If you are of a fairly average build the fit is good for off the peg kilts. They fit me fairly well, but if you have a large back end compared to your waist measurement they might not fit too well.

I have zero experience with tartanista...I have a feeling that the wares are about the same.
The grass is greener on the other side of the fence...and it's usually greenest right above the septic tank.

And a big plus is that Stillwater Kilts is an advertiser here.

You can trust Jerry to deliver exactly what he advertises.

I have two SWKs, a Stewart Royal and a Stewart Hunting in the Standard Kilt flavor. I love them both! Jerry went the extra mile for me to find the Hunting as it is not one he normally stocks. For that alone I say go with SWK!!!

There's a thread about Tartanista here from this past April. Entering it in the search form gives several more hits...

From Stillwater, I have 3 heavyweights and one each standard, economy (old style), thrifty. As you can see, I think the heavyweight (wool) is a bargain, and all are good value.

The acrylic ones, when new, were worn for all sorts of occasions; after a fair bit of wear, the fabric pills a bit. I wear them about the house, yard, going to the market. The wool SWK is quite presentable. Fit may be the main deciding factor: all adult sizes are 24-inch length and have a standard waist/hip ratio (as mentioned above). If your hips measure within 10-20 percent of your waist size, the fit should be good. My experience is with sizes 32-36, YMMV. Jerry is very helpful witn customer questions.

In addition to Jerry's famous service and shipping, know this: if it's on the Web site, it is in stock. This has made my dealings with SWK laudably predictable. The joke is that while you're thinking about completing the order, some time-space wormhole opens up & the package arrives at your door. Actually it's USPS Priority mail, plus a good system for tracking the stock.

I have purcahsed a few budget kilts from Tartanista, tartan and non-trad. I have always had good service and value for money. Their kilts are, I believe, made in Pakistan, could be from the same source as Stillwater for all I know as I have no experience of Stillwater. Carriage and customs costs can be significant. So as I live in Scotland I would buy from Tartanista who are based in London, England, if I lived in North America it would make more sense to deal with Stillwater.
