Commonwealth games handover kilt tartan

I was up in my home town of Keith recently, and a friend who took part in the handover of the Commonwealth Games from Delhi to Glasgow, showed me their kilt, and I immediately thought of this forum, and how some of you might like to see a close up of it.

Having in the past been a bit of a traditionalist, I was quite impressed by the tartan design. It was really quite clever I thought in the way that it didnt look quite like a traditional tartan, but still made the right pattern across the pleats - would be interested to hear what others think.

I for one, like it quite a bit. I have several Tye dyed tee shirts that would go well with it. Not exactly something you would wear to a Burns dinner but defiantly something different!ith:

Great pics, and I have heard of Jilli Blackwood she takes the traditional and brings a new level of design to it, with much admiration for her methods, I like this design.

At the time of the event there was a posting here about those very kilts. I liked them very much and was very impresed of the maker and her designs.
There was a strong feeling in that posting they weren't very "proper" which I thought was a real shame as kilt wearing and making has to move forward, keeping in touch with traditional of course, but it's important that we don't live in the past

Yes sorry should have checked back for a previous thread about them, but was just so excited to finally get some pictures up, that I just posted.

I must say when I first saw it, I thought that it wasn't my cup of tea either, but the more I looked at it, the more I was impressed by the design being a modern take on tartan, and changing its look depending on how far away you were from it etc. The material itself was probably a fairly cheap fabric ( was fully lined inside) so that they could fire out enough for all the dancers, but it was still an impressive garment.
