Waist measurement
I know various measurement issues have been covered in other posts....but heres what I'm worried about....I have a bit of a tummy....about 48" standing when my hip measurement is about 51-2"
sounds about right for waist to hip ratio but heres the thing...when I sit the tummy goes from 48-50ish?
If I measure for 48" won't i then suffer...the oh my goodness I need to loosen the buckles experience when i sit down?

What you experience might be more common than you think. That happens to me as well. I find that as I wear my kilt, it naturally loosens up a bit. Meaning that as I sit, it doesn't feel so tight after awhile. I had a similar concern initially, but have come to realize that although it feels tighter, it is not something that causes discomfort or makes me adjust my straps.
Just my 2 cents.

I would assume the apparent change in you waist size when you sit is because of the fat shifting (sorry, I don't think there is a delicate way to say that!). I suggest that if you have a 48" kilt secured around your waist, that when you sit the fat will simply shift itself around the kilt.
It may feel a little snug, but then again the alternative would be to have a 50" kilt made that would feel super comfy when you were sitting, but as soon as you stood up would drop down around your ankles!

Yeh.....I think thats right....was just wondering what people with more experience in buying kilts might think or any issues people may have come across to be aware of.....it des just shift with a belt too...but a belt is thin compared to the width of a kilt that runs over the entire abdominal area.

I have the same issue but for different reasons. With my lack of waist and hips I need the kilt to be very firm on my waist and hips but when I sit I must alter my posture to be straighter or I can't breathe right. Go with the waist measurement for the reasons M.A.C. mentioned.

From another 48" person, what Matt says is right on. Sitting is not as comfy as standing, but you can still breathe

And why would you want to sit anyway? Stand up and be proud that you have a kilt on!
